1. What is silybon syrup? What is it used for?
Ans: Silybon syrup belongs to a class of medicines known as a hepatoprotective agent. It is used to treat chronic (long-standing) liver disease & also used to treat severe cases of liver disease known as cirrhosis of the liver.
2. What are the side effects of silybon syrup?
Ans: The most common side effects are nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, hair loss, dizziness, itching and diarrhoea. Inform your doctor if you are more concerned about this side effect. Your doctor may either reduce the dose or discontinue the treatment. In case of severe diarrhoea, drink plenty of water or fluids.
3. How to use silybon syrup?
Ans: Silybon syrup should be taken with or without food.
4. Can silybon syrup be used in pregnancy and lactation?
Ans: Silybon syrup is not considered safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are nursing a baby.
5. Can I take antacids along with silybon syrup?
Ans: Avoid taking aluminium-containing antacids along with silybon syrup as they might interfere with the absorption of the syrup. Maintain a time gap of 2 hrs between taking these both medicines.
